 INTEGRATING MAJOR GIFTS WITH

PLANNED GIVING AND UTILIZING

METRICS TO FOSTER COLLABORATION

Speakers:

Darrin Goldin

Amy Grant

Vicki Johnson

Moderator: Randy Daugherty

This presentation features three senior development professionals engaged in working with and managing both major and planned giving professionals.  They will discuss the current state of major and planned giving integration at their institutions.  They will also address impediments of major and planned giving officers working together and the importance of building trust between gift officers who have different priorities and styles of working.  Finally, they will discuss how they manage staff with diverse talents and differing roles to work collaboratively.

Darrin Goldin, J.D., joined the UT Southwestern Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) in 2017. In his role as Associate Vice President, he manages Development professionals across major gifts, gift planning, principal giving, and corporate and foundation relations who are responsible for securing over $50 million annually in philanthropic support. Darrin also maintains a portfolio of leading philanthropists and works to foster a team committed to DAR’s key principles:  1) Every Job Matters; 2) Think Big; and 3) Assume Positive Intent. Darrin holds a B.A. in political science from Rollins College and received his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law

Amy Albritton Grant attended Baylor University where she got her degree in Theatre Arts. After two years of nonprofit work in Austin, she attended SMU and graduated with her JD.  Amy began working in higher education gift planning at SMU and joined the Advancement team at Baylor University in 2016. She is now Baylor’s Assistant Vice President for Planned, Principal & Foundation Giving.

Vicki Johnson is Senior Associate Planned Giving Director for the Salvation Army – Texas Southern Division Territory.  She has extensive experience in nonprofit fundraising and management. Her focus in communities across Dallas and East Texas is to obtain planned gifts including wills, trusts and life-time income instruments. She works to educate donors and professionals on the most efficient and tax smart way to make a legacy gift for the future. As a CAP® Designee, Vicki is qualified to help successful and caring donors create a gift plan within their overall financial or estate plan. A plan that embodies their ideals, as well as their traditional goals and objectives.

Randy Daugherty joined UT Southwestern as Director of Planned Giving in 2011, after serving in a similar role at Southwestern Medical Foundation from 2000 to 2011.  He works with donors to suggest bequest language to share with attorneys, establish charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, utilize beneficiary designations for retirement plan accounts and explore gifts of other non-cash assets like real estate and life insurance. He has a B.S. degree from David Lipscomb University and a M.Div. from Vanderbilt University.  He received the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designation (CAP) through the American College of Financial Services.

There are no continuing education credits for this presentation.
